i have an O. pair of JD's ,3GT's,3EBJD's in a well planted tank and sofar they havent bothered themi keep my O's bedding area clear or he would move them im sure
evrytime i vac the tank i move a few rocks in his bed lmaoo it makes him mad he will scoop them up and come to the front of the tank where i can see him and spit them at the glass he is to funny

I have successfully kept plants with a lot of different cichlids. My africans do great dn I hardly ever notice and plant damage. My rainbow cichlids can't resist nipping on the val though.

Salvini and Firemouths are two species that really like planted tanks.

I've had my GT, FM and JD in my 90 for 2 years. a year ago I added 2 Anubias nana and 1 Anubias Barteri. What has worked best for me is to wedge the ryzome into a crack or space in the large pieces of driftwood I have. The plants are growing extremely well and they fish do not bother them at all.

here's a pic to help show what I'm trying to say. Good luck!

I keep haitiensis, carpintis 'escondido', midas, red tiger motaguense, festae, tetracanthus and vieja bifasciatus... and none of them would let plants live. They'd either dig them up (most of those species are compulsive diggers), rip them to pieces for fun (midas & carpintis) or eat them (bifas...and maybe the haitiensis, they seem to eat everything!).

I've kept other species in the past and found that even my larger male GT would eventually dig up any plants.

Is it worth a try in 210 with Oscars, JD, Uaru, Severums, Cons, and a Firemouth?

WOW....I LOVE YOUR TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *wipes drool from face*

All I can say is NO AFRICANS!!!

pikes!!!

Thanks LADY G:D

This method has worked very well for me. The best part is that when I do a water change, I take all the wood and rock out, then gravel vac etc. When I'm filling it back up, I rearrange it differently every time. The plants are always in different areas of the tank, which might help too.

When I had Java ferns growing, they'd dig them up tho. So those plants went into the 30 gallon with Jewels and are doing great there

I've been told that fish don't like the taste of the Anubias plants, and though the GT nips at them occasionally, they don't tear em up.

Drs Foster & Smith is a good place to buy plants online IME. They sell the wood with the plant already rooted inside it. Worked good for me

Good luck!

Thanks, I am going to give it a shot.
