Live Rock

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There's really no such thing as too much flow in the saltwater setting, so you can always add more powerheads and/or upgrade the current powerheads.

Ideally, you shouldn't need to clean the rock and the combination of the powerheads & the clean-up crew should take care of 99% of the gunk.

Bingo! - alot of what's un-eaten is dissolved carbonite from bone in fish meal or shrimp skeletons or corn meal used in pellets - you need to find snails that eat detrrius.

Interesting, I know I can't add more power heads in my tank as it either blows the sand everywhere or my lps and anemonies don't like it and shrink up.

I also have not been able to keep small snails as the snowflake eel or puffer eat them which is a big downside to keeping them.

How much live rock do you have in there? I would take out the HOB they are nitrate generators and pollute the tank. You shouldn't have to be doing weekly water changes with salt water. Set up the tank FOWLR get more live rock take out the filters, add a skimmer and then you only have to do a 30% wc a month I believe it is 1.5lbs of live rock per gallon. You should just get more dead rock and get it seeded to make that quota, don't buy all expensive Live Rock. As mentioned previously point powerhead directly at the LR for best filtration.
