is there any plant that i can grow that will take over the whole bottom of my tank and not grow to tall? i was thinking of like a grass bottom instead of gravel/sand substrate

that would be a cool looking tank. I remember seing a plant like that but i foregot its name. I still think you need sand/graval for it to root onto.

i have seen it before but not sure what it was... java moss maybe?

If you want grass bottom, either echinodorus tenellus, or hairgrass. Glosso does not look like a grass, and can grow somewhat tall.

I always thought it would be kind of cool to have a completely java moss bottom, but many people don't seem to like this look.

true, hair grasss will look better also. kinda like a under water lawn. you will need sand or plant substrate for it to root into though

i like Eleocharis parvula 'dwarf grass hair' but i have a 20" eel and a 10" eel that would dig through the substrate. would it mess up the plant and uproot it? or could i do only a small layer like 1/4" deep?
