So if a Dovii in your opinion is not an apex predator you mean to tell me that your predatory characin are?

I had allready said that I do not own any apex preds.

But since you keep preaching about how bad a dovii is lets see your monster?

Weened as in I can starve my fish for a few days or weeks and then it will eat what I want it too. Thats a joke.

That is why IMO cichlids are better survivors than a lot of these so called "apex predators" They don't need live food to strive whatever is available they eat!! My buddy has a wide variety of Predatory Characins and outside of watching them eat other fish they are quite boring and skittish.

BTW for those who do only use feeders notice the color of the fishes poop-black. I bet when you vacuum the bottom of your tanks you pick up tons of black waste. Back when I was ignorant I only fed my Clown Knife live food and his poop was black-really how healthy can that be?

Cichlids are expert surviviors and so are the common rodent or rat.:hitting: But that puts them twards the bottom of the food chain. :nutkick:

And i feed many fish feeders and have never seen black poo. I kept a clown years ago and feed it live as well and I can not recall seeing any black poo then etheir. So I think that might have been your fish.;)

Cichlids are at the bottom?
which fish can kill another has nothing to do with this discussion though lets stay or track
gotta admit though pound for pound a dovii is a killer.. and they can reach sizes of 40 inches or more..

Not at the bottom twards the bottom. And thats only some of them and that is my opinion. Tem's are monsters no doubt.

Also you do realize that the reason this king of cichlids dovii looks the way it does is that it has evolved into a specialized cichlid hunter. In the wild that is its prey is cichlids.

So you would take a fish that you like because of its size and looks and temper that has evolved over thousands of years into the fish we see today to eat other fish. And then stick it in a tank and feed it pellets?:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy:

yea i would...
pellets work and my fish are happy...
with the frozen blood worms..insects etc..

Feeder fish have evolved over thousands of years to evade predators, but then you stick them in a glass tank where they have no chance of escape?

(just one smily is sufficient)

Since you're taking wild caught specimens into account...

Also, cichla temensis grow to over 3' and are cichlids ;)

That pic is deceiving.......the fish in the pic looks huge because the lady is holding it way out in front of her and think about how big the womens hands are........it is not that big;) Probably 24" Max

What harry potter book are you getting this out of? I want proof to believe it.

Keep the dovii debate in another topic if you please.
