Living in a tiny House

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I live in a 803 sqft. apartment. This is big enough for me. If this was a house, I'd make a lot of changes that would open this place a lot more for the two big tanks I have now. I hate the thought of a huge mortgage payment, huge car payments, etc. 803 sqft shack in the woods next to a creek is ideal for me. I don't accumulate much, just have the convince the GF :)

I went from almost 4000sq ft a year ago down to 1200sq ft. We could probably go a little smaller maybe 900-1000sq ft but I couldnt live in a super tiny house. Have plenty of room for tanks in the new house...have one in each room except for the bathroom. Also converted one bedroom to a fishroom/office.

with my family size i'd need at least 5 of those. and then break down the walls to make them all connect

I reckon our two bed one bath house is slightly smaller than 800 sq ft , thats got me and the gf two kids a dog and three tanks in it we are goin loco on a daily basis and desperately need a bigger house thats not rented and preferably has a garage or cellar for fish room ;)

I've visited some pretty small homes in Puerto Rico.

I'd prefer a smaller simpler house with more land. These days people pay for overpriced houses with too much stuff they don't really need to live cramped up next to their neighbor. No way I would pay 500k or up to live like a sardine next to my neighbor with no yard or privacy. If you got more land you can build a pond and stock the fish you want. Smaller houses also means you save a lot more money. But, I would say this, these small homes are only suitable for people who are single or couples. They are not for families.

Exactly. People prefer to have all these debts. Mortgage, car payments, credit cards makes you a slave. Debt=stress. A smaller simpler home not crammed next to neighbors is a lot cheaper and will be better off in the long run. But this doesn't work for those with big families. You can buy land for really cheap in some places and have a small home build for as little as 10K. You could set up solar panels and use gas to keep warm. You could be very independent this way. Then with all that land build a huge pond, build a huge garden, use the land for other things too.

I sometimes feel that way as well, but then I walk outside my front door, look at the beautiful canyon I live in and the hills that surround me, and realize that the beach is just 1/2 a mile away, and I don't feel so loco anymore.

I don't have the beautiful canyon and beach lol I live 1/2 mile from the Ohio River and not close to anything worth going to lol

I'm 6'2" and 275 lbs...I don't think that will work for me.
