I wouldn't suggest chameleons unless your using a mesh tank with optimal air-flow, except if you want to do pygmy chameleons. Also, chameleons get easily stressed when handled for the most part (there are exceptions of course). I own an ornate uromastyx and he's pretty cool along with two chuckwallas and they only eat greens. I'd definitely check out kingsnake.com or faunaclassifieds to get ideas.
 
I was thinking of building a cage to go over the top of the tank to have it open and extra roaming room. From what I've heard and read panther chameleons can be aggressive.

Get a uromastyx. Easy to care for, easy to feed (no bugs!) And very pretty too.
 
^ A uromastyx would be a pretty good choice. Out of all the species of chameleons, the panthers are often viewed as the "friendlier" ones, once again some don't mind handling and others can be extremely aggressive.
