I need some pointers for getting my LMB to eat pellets. Also what size pellets. What brand etc... He is 6 inches. Currently eats live feeders, worms, and ghost shrimp. As soon as I drop in something that doesn't move he wants no part of it.

my lmb never took to pellets i tryed not feeding him for a few days still didnt work, the diet u got him on is pretty healthy tho i would just stick to it

Yeah they say that if you get them young then you can train them on pellets, I personally got mine at 2 1/2 inches and he was stubborn then and is still stubborn now at 5 inches. He simply doesn't like pellets or anything that does not move for that matter. My Channel Cat is a little bit more compromising, but still likes live food as well.

I have raised two, one ate them the other didnt. The one that ate pellets i got him when it was about an inch to an inch and a half. He would only eat stick pellets, would not take pellets if they were in the ball pellet form. This one also was kept with sunfish and a bullhead that ate pellets and learned from them. Try the stick pellets they might work.

I always have trouble getting natives on pellets. I can get nightcrawlers from the local bait stand once a week for my rbass, yperch, and walleye so I don;t bother anymore. I have tried and many times to get them on pellets and have failed they just won't eat them.

try using freezed dried crickets. Since this would be a nice intermediate between live foods, and floating pellets. My highschools old bass was fed meal worms, and live crickets, then freeze dried bugs, then suprisingly, fish flakes. It stayed round and healthy, with occasional 3-4 inch golden shiner as a treat.

my lmb dispised pellets with a passion, he would attack them until they fell apart and then would swim away, but some of my other lmbs would eat flakes

My LMB won't even eat live crickets so I don't know about the freeze dried ones. He won't eat the freeze dried brine shrimp that I feed my bullhead and it smells stankier than anything. I have dropped in a feeder and he snags it and then right after a pellet to trick him. He will fall for it and put the pellet in his mouth but then just spit it out. I've had him since he was about 2 inches. He just loves being the predator that he is and feeding on live prey. LETS SEE SOME PICS OF YOUR GUYS LMB TANKS.

I basically starved mine for two weeks, dropped in a Rosy Red he ate it right when it hit the water. I then dropped in a pellet, and he ate it immediately. He ate about 4 more after that. Now, I just wait every 3 to 4 days in between feeding and he will eat the pellets.

Any of my fish that won't eat pellets after a couple weeks get "the talk". I pull a chair up to the aquarium and sit down. I then give my lecture on proper diet and eating habits. "You don't want to have a hole in your forehead when you grow up do you?"
