I highly doubt that it's legal to catch bass with any kind of net. Usually the only "game fish" that can be netted legally are smaller species of the sunfish family (lmb are in the sunfish family, but are a large species.)

What is the temperature of the water where you were fishing? That will help us give you more fishing techniques.
Yesterday it was about 65, I think the bass might be spawning because they are all in shallow nests.

At 65 degrees, I would agree that they would be somewhere in the spawning stage. When they are on their nest, it can be a ton of fun to fish for them, but its best to release them immediately so they can continue to guard them. I like to use a crayfish imitation (I mostly flyfish, but you can try soft plastics like a 6" lizard, or a small sunfish imitation,) and cast it a few feet past the nest. You either want the lure to fall into the nest, or you can drag it onto the nest. Watch the bass (a good pair of polarized sunglasses are SO much help, once you try a pair you won't fish without them) as it will usually come over to investigate. If you leave the lure there long enough, they will usually try to chase it away, and when that doesn't work they get MAD and attack the lure out of anger. Sometimes it helps to impart a very subtle action on the bait, and it doesn't hurt to try several casts to the same nest.

As long as you guys want to get illegal and net them, you may as well use dynamite, in for an inch in for a mile.

fly fishing for the win!!!!! :headbang2

its kinda messed up to piss off a parenting bass cuz there repopulating the lake that we fish in and anglers want all the bass we can get lol but if u are trying to catch a fish guarding its nest, get a jig or crayfish imitation and flip it into the pocket in which the nest is in, and usualy the lmb are realy aggressive and protective of their nest so theyl kill anyting that comes close :D
