Here's whats going on. I will be getting a 125 in the next couple weeks and want to stock it. I was thinking LMB growouts for my pond or PBass growouts for my 750 gallon tank build. Now would it be ok if I grew out the LMB in a species only tank with no exotic fish at all and then release them in my pond? The pond is completely mine and has no fish besides maybe a couple largemouth and tons of turtles. It also has beavers and ducks but thats it for animals there. I know the whole thing on never releasing or re-releasing pets into a body of water but I don't see the harm in my case as the pond is mine and I have only ever seen like 4 fish in the thing. The pond is about 80 feet wide and about 120-150 feet long and the deepest point is 10 feet. I would like to hopefully get the LMB breeding in the pond so I can fish there some day. Right now I fish in my river and mostly catch rainbow trout which aren't really all that exciting. Anyways the fish would not carry any exotic parasites or bacterium that can harm the pond. It is a man made pond and was built by my grandfather about 50 years ago. So would that be a go or a no?

before you stock it i would drain it and remove as many turtles as possible because they will eat all the bass you stock

That is true. NY Requires a Farm Pond Stocking Permit. Commercial stocking requires a DEC stocking permit.

The Farm license for NY is free and lasts 5 years. You have to specify your water and if it connects in any way to public waters. Depending on your water outlets, you may or may not be limited to the fish you can keep. You also have to specify what fish you are going to stock, and that gets annotated onto the permit.

This is mainly to allow you to buy from commercial stockers for private use. The release of legally caught game fish in private separated ponds also has a few rules.

I am pretty sure that every state (besides CA) doesn't reinvent the wheel for this so check with your DEC/DNR/DFG to find out if they offer private and commercial permits.

i can help you out with stocking if you want
pretty sure we dont need a liscence to stock private waters in ct
what kind of turtles like painted and sliders, they would be fine with bass if the bass are grown out to a foot, if you get some now, and grow them out over the winter you should be able to relase them in the spring into the pond
where do you fish in the new haven area
there are some nice spots up here in the greater hartford
ever consider adding a few pickerel?

I was thinking about some pickerel as well. I may even want to go with some sunnies as well as Bluegills. Simple stuff that is easy to raise. If you want voss345 you could raise some LMB and come to my house and we will release them. The pond is pretty damn big so I am thinking raise about 18 LMB and releasing the group to breed them selves. That reminds me of time actually where I was at my friends farm and we were fishing in his 2 ponds on his property and we actually saw two LMB spawning in a little area near the edge of the water. Every time we went in a little closer they would swim away so we decided not to bother them. However I did see fertilized eggs and I was going to take some that had washed up near us but I figured let nature be nature and plus there will be more LMB next summer. His ponds are MASSIVE we were catching LMB like 16"-24". I am don't even know what turtles I have in there all I know is they are annoying as hell and I want to get rid of them. About the permit thing I am not sure about getting one for my own pond but I know I can NOT touch my river. I can get some SERIOUS fines for introducing any fish in there. I only own part of the river about 3/4 of a mile of it.

OK, this may not be of much help seeing as how I live in canada....But even here they are sticky as to what can be stalked and what the water body connects to. Ponds are fine, but like you mentioned, if there are connecting streams, brooks, rivers ect you have to be carefull as to what is stocked in the pond so it doesnt make its way out via the waterways.
Also even though you may think you have a large area of water, LMB usually stick to one area for feeding depending on size. A 10+ LMB will usually hunt an area of water as large as 50 ft radius in a large lake and protects it friercly. This being said, you would only have room in there for a dozen or less. And they will multiple fairly rapidly in good conditions. Also, if you plan on someday fishing this pond, sun fish IMO would be a bad choice. I know you Americans love your pan fish lol, BUT, sunfish multiply rapidly and within a few years of introducing them you would be cating them everytime you casted into the pond!
I think if I had the pond you are describing...I would stock with Walley or as we call them here Pickeral. Then I would throw in sunfish and not worry because they would be nothing more than food anyway.

yea cross i can catch some for you i think im going to buy the 200 gallon holding tank off my friend, you would prolly want to make a self sustaining eco system
so you would need the food chain basically
get some monster sunfish so they survive and breed with some lmb, grass pickerel, maybe chain. some yellow perch, and cats, which will prolly be the hardest to catch
how big
im guessing with the dimensions of you pond it is around a half acre
so you will prolly want like 10 bass at least maybe 15 sunnys and some perch
you could get rid of some of the turtles but you dont need to make sure you put in a lot of fallen trees to break up line of sight an territories you iwll in affect have a bunch of seperate territories especially for sunnys and pickerel
how deep is the pond?

Sunfish will breed like mad. But if you also have a Monster fish inside your house you can seine for the fry and feed them to your tanks.

I always toss perch into my pond but never find any fry. The only thing I get is LMB, bull head, channel cat, and sunfish fry.
