They are being bred using hormones, but not on a scale massive enough to affect the live export much.

Hello how are you doing? This will be the first time that I talk to you. I have been inspired on your clown loaches.

My wife and I purchased 2 a while back and at first I did not care for them. Since then they have become my fav. We plan on getting a 200 gallon or 240 some where around there. In your opinion if I run 2 Fluval FX5’s on the tank with sand and hiding spots, How many do you think I could have? I also wanted to do many other types of loaches in there as well.

Glad to hear you want to dedicate a tank to loaches. How many you can have really depends on you. Your bioload increases quickly as you add more fish. When you have a large shoal, you need to be very religious about your water changes. Weekly water changes are important, and 25% isn't going to cut it. I would recommend you start with a dozen loaches at 3". Make sure they aren't skinny. Larger loaches can be tough to find, that's half the fun. Add to your collection as larger quality specimens become available. That way you can tell how much water you need to change and what fits into your schedule. When you have a reached a maintenance schedule, shoal size, and food bill you are comfortable with, you're good to go.

Thanks ewurm..
I do a 25% to 40% W/C in all my tanks every Sunday. I have no problem with that. I also don’t think that I should cycle the tank with loaches. Please tell me you agree with that one. I would like to do the following:

Live plants
Lots of driftwood
Clown loaches
Yoyo loaches
Kuhli loaches
Zebra loaches
Botia loaches

What type of fish should I cycle that big of a tank with?
When it is cycled, can I place one or two EBJD’s in there?

As you can see I will be following your blogs and post on the beloved clown loaches. Thanks for your time and looking forward to showing you my tank when I start it.

Loaches may chew on broad leaved plants. Yoyos are OK, but I recommend against smaller species with larger clowns and Yoyos. I would use previously cycled media, or cycle with Giant Danios. When Ammonia reaches zero, slowly add new fish. I would recommend against more than one cichlid. Agression in the tank will send the loaches into hiding.

Inspired by the new LOACH FORUM, I had to get a couple more. Snagged these nice ones.
