New Zealand
While searching for a picture for a friend I came across this short video made by some tourists of the local park/reserve at the end of the road I live on. It isn't a big area, but has a nice little stream, some massive old Kauri trees (native conifers with enormous thick trunks), and an elevated 'canopy walk' running from one side of the valley to the other, up to 14 metres high. Seeing the trouble someone went to in making a video of something right on my doorstep that is so often taken for granted made me wonder how many other little hidden treasures there are around the world. I know New Zealand has a reputation as being very scenic, but I've done enough travelling to know that anywhere you go there are beautiful spots everywhere, be it an urban park, an isolated mountain range, quiet beach or river, even your own garden. MFK has a fairly diverse and wide-spread population, so lets share some pics (or video!) from your favourite local places.

I'll start with the one mentioned above; A.H Reed Memorial Kauri Park. Only a few acres and very close to town, but for the most part peaceful, tranquil and unspoilt. The weather is looking good tomorrow so I'll go for a walk with the camera and take some of my own pictures, but here's the video plus a couple of shots off the net;

(mods if you feel this would be better in the photo lounge then move it, I just thought I'd post it here as it is as much a discussion as a pics thread)

Sheer beauties there. Envious of such a backyard there Pacumom. Even you David, as far as I rem you too do have a lush green backyard yea?
I will post up some pics later on of my fav place around here. It is one of the hot spots of the world "The Western Ghats".

It isn't much of a "yard", we are on a steep one-acre section mostly surrounded by trees and only have two small flat lawns not much bigger than the average livingroom! This is the view from above the house, about the highest point of our land. It really is a lovely spot, and only 10 minutes to the centre of town too. I sometimes wish we had a bit more land, but getting this sort of privacy and quiet so close to town makes me feel very fortunate.

Beautiful photos,Gar...Those monkeys remind me of a tv show that featured a troupe of monkeys that lived in a neighborhood in India.They were constantly stealing from food vendors.

Great shots! Love the lichen shot, and the monkeys of course. One thing we don't really have here is significant wild-life. Loads of birds and a few introduced pests, some very cool insects and reptiles (that you're never likely to see in the wild unless you specifically go looking) and that's about it.

krichardson, I'm looking forward to seeing pics of Datnoid Island. ;)

Same here, we have some nice landscape (although not really nature) but hardly any animals.

Glad y'all like guys :)
Krich... I think you are talking about monkey thieves or something episode. Yup that's in the north. This place is not a tourist place. If it was then it surely would have turned them into the same clan.
This place used to be a Iron ore mining town. Due to deforestation it has been banned. The township is like one of those zombie movies as nobody lives there.
Has abundance of wild life including some massive sized bisons :)
