While searching for a picture for a friend I came across this short video made by some tourists of the local park/reserve at the end of the road I live on. It isn't a big area, but has a nice little stream, some massive old Kauri trees (native conifers with enormous thick trunks), and an elevated 'canopy walk' running from one side of the valley to the other, up to 14 metres high. Seeing the trouble someone went to in making a video of something right on my doorstep that is so often taken for granted made me wonder how many other little hidden treasures there are around the world. I know New Zealand has a reputation as being very scenic, but I've done enough travelling to know that anywhere you go there are beautiful spots everywhere, be it an urban park, an isolated mountain range, quiet beach or river, even your own garden. MFK has a fairly diverse and wide-spread population, so lets share some pics (or video!) from your favourite local places.
I'll start with the one mentioned above; A.H Reed Memorial Kauri Park. Only a few acres and very close to town, but for the most part peaceful, tranquil and unspoilt. The weather is looking good tomorrow so I'll go for a walk with the camera and take some of my own pictures, but here's the video plus a couple of shots off the net;

(mods if you feel this would be better in the photo lounge then move it, I just thought I'd post it here as it is as much a discussion as a pics thread)
