Local petsmart has red tail tinfoil barbs at a dollar

Redtailed tinfoil barbs? They all have a redtail I think it is a ploy to sell them. They are as bullet proof as any fish can be also they get large but a dollar is a good deal.

I have never seen any store do this. your fish stores must be bigger than ours. only the big chain stores might have room to do this around here.

Actually its a little local owned shop, its tiny, but I always enjoy visiting it; all the tanks are operated with sponge filters, and it just has a very homely feel to it as opposed to large chains :)

hey if they wanted to call them fire tail id still buy them. A buck a piece and you get a nice school that will grow a decent size. you know how big box pet stores are, they just want to sell stuff, if you walk in and say i want an L200 or a tigrinus they get a blank stare. its like a foreign language if its not exactly what the sticker says. and 9 times out of 10 its a college age girl that really doesnt know anything about fish.

Yeah I know the feeling. I walked in to my local petsmart a few months ago asking if they could special order datnoids. They just looked at me like I was dumb. I showed them the pic and the guy was like oh yeah we can get those in i think you are meaning giant tiger barbs that's what they are.(facepalm moment I don't even think there is such a thing ) lol they really have no idea what types fish are they just want to sell them. Like Chris said fire tail or not I'd still get them also.

so then how do they do it? are you telling me they only use half their tank space for display with the other half unaccessible to the public?

I've been in the back shop, and they do have a full wall of quarantine tanks, yes :)
I wanted baby convicts and seen they didn't have any, until I asked and was shown the back room. If we're being pedantic, they probably don't quarantine 100% of the fish, but all the tanks in the back were full with recent arrivals, which is good enough for me.

The one thing I do appreciate about big Al's is the fact that they do quarantine all new arrivals and will not sell fish with ich or other known diseases. If a tank gets sick they take them off of the sales, gotta respect that
