ccdoido;3105186; said:HMMMM. I'm almost 100% sure that there are two different species in the essequibo since I caught both. One is like the guyanese ocel and the other one is type. this one lives in the faster moving waters and the guyanese ocel lives in lagoons and slower waters.

I do think ocellaris have bar1, bar2, and ocellated spot at dorsal fin base.
There are few other cichla with also ocellated spot at dorsal fin base, ie jarina, vazozzoleri, and thyrorus, but there are more than 1 ocellated blotches at place of bar 1 and 2. The pattern of those blotches of course will determine exact identification.

HOWEVER.... interestingly according to Kullander's new cichla species review, there is only one species you can find in ESSEQUIBO river, Guyana.. maybe possibly orinos.
I have to agree with joey, j/k.![]()
yeah, but driving a good 7 hours or so. I don't know if the river is ant good for fishing now [ rivers are high ]jamesliu2000;3105250; said:maybe Cichla jarina?? rio jari is very closed by.
I am trying to find some information about jarina, but no luck.
Without knowing the river distribution, my first instinct was jarina vs. pinima.
Can you catch this species near where you live??at least driving distance??
