That is something important to discuss, if she is able to get the litle turt to accept a pelleted food at least as part of the diet, it is possible to skip uv. However if this turt only accepts stuff like mosquito larvae it is advisable and important to ad a uv lamp at least for now. A small amount of uv indeed penetrates water. A basking spot however you can pretty much go without it, just have a place for the turt to get out of the water if it wants to.snakeguy101;4885967; said:these turtles don't need UVB. An ambient amount should be fine since they spend a majority of their time under water where it is filtered out anyways. Just keep it warm and you will be fine.

Its perfect, couldnt ask for moreNatalie;4887975; said:I have two basking spots, a heat lamp, and a UVB lamp over my tank. I know that it's rare for mud and musk turtles to bask, but everything I've read says you should at least offer a basking area in case it's needed.
