Lol managuense problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My flowerhorn used to bite me all the time if I went in her tank showing any hesitation (fear). So finally I decided to show her who is boss. Fish aren't dumb. I just stuck my hand straight in and when she came towards me I reached out to her like I was gonna grab her. She thought twice and ran away. She had been letting me do whatever I want in the tank for a while after that. Then all of a sudden yesterday she bit me again lol. I was lingering around in the tank for a while tho. Sometimes you have to make them scared of you. LOL

Exactly this! No other way

Thanks Miguel for the cosign. I wasn't to sure if people would agree with me. Maybe they'd say I'm cruel and abusive. LOL I've never, nor would I ever, actually hurt them, but I just don't want to have to be afraid of something thats costing me so much money to maintain. LOL I wouldn't keep a dog I was scared of, you know?

there is no other way. It is as you stated. You need to be able to work inside the tank, and bar really dangerous fish ( electric eels, Lionfish, and a couple of others ) where you really need to have a safe method ( due to life threat and not bite threat ) , you cannot be afraid of your Aro, your Dovii, your jag etc, etc, etc....

As to dogs, being scared of your own dog is the best way to get bitten. It is a hypothesis that I ( as a several mastiff owner ) do not even consider possible.

When I got bit by my oscar vacuuming the gravel, I chased it with the gravel vacuum. I did that each time I went to maintain the tank. I made sure that I was the first aggressor. After that point, my oscar never came close to my hand and never bit me again.

Update: my jag is a foot now and after I read some of these I got fed up and reached toward him. He fled to the other side. Since that day, I can clean no problem and he either swims away from my hand or acts like its not there. Only things he hates now is my magnet cleaner and any other fish who touches the water.

Nice that you got him under control...but i see there are members that wish they had your old problem...about a month ago i was teasing my managuense trying to get him to flare out at a mirror and he went skittish and dashed around going into hiding ..it took a week for him to come back to his former self...now that he is aggressive and gives me a hard time when i clean the tank i embrace it:)
