First of all, on the suggestion of the leporinus, I'd stay away they can be very aggressive and number two, go with the oscar none of the fish that sg1 said would attack it will, number three the oscar grows very fast and gt's and con's don't, and finally I would add a small pim or syno catfish.

Leporinus can be agressive yes, so are cichlids. Ive had nothing but incredibly positive results keeping solo leporinus's in cichlid communities for years. They are one of the few non cichlids that blend very nicely in cichlid communities because they are able to defend themselves. As far as what I said would attack the Oscar, I said a red devil would attack the Oscar for sure. If you dont think so than maybe you should try it and see what happens. Just make sure you have an extra tank to put the pieces of your oscar in to heal when the damage is done, thats if you get him out of there before your Devil kills him. I also said that with a 4 inch Convict and a 4 inch Green Terror in a tank togeather with a 1 inch oscar, that one of them would probably take it out. Oscars are NOT tough fish just big fish, a 1 inch oscar is not exactly a force to be reckoned with, if you dont think a Con or a GT 4 times bigger than a baby oscar is capable of offing it, then I dont even know what to say to you lol Just last month my 4 inch con PUNKED my 8 inch Jack dempsey, and you dont think a 4 inch con can hurt a 1 inch oscar? Seriously? As for adding a small pim or syno catfish, I wouldnt recommend adding anything small with an Oscar and a Jag in the tank unless you are just looking to feed your larger fish lol

alright fellas chill out, and so with an oscar, gonna try it, and a festae in there stocking the 180 is:

1 jag
1 green terror
breeding pair of convicts
1 MALE festae(unless a female would be better)
1 oscar(i think an albino tiger oscar)
4 red hooks
5 clown loaches

if you have any input to this let me know

You'll be fine!!!!!!!! Any pics of those fish??Also post those redhooks in My Monster Silverdollar League and become a member.

FX5 is garbage!!!! I went through 3 of them till I finally wised up ang paid the money for an Eheim Professional II, its so far superior to the cheaply built fx5 its not even funny. I believe the Eheim Professional III is also available too, thing is a monster and he quality cant be beat!

Best filter on the market as far as Im concerened, check it out:
http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?idproduct=EH2080

The FX5 is just so flimsy its almost like it was made to break.

all fluvals are, working at a LFS, trust me, not one person has not had problems with there fluval, i always steer them towards Rena filters now.

no matter what canister filter you use, my best advise is to back it up with foam filters, a good quality one like an API hydro 5. in a 180 gallon i would use a minimum of 4, they can all be run safely with one MA600 air pump and don't forget to use airstones inside the foam filters i believe they increase the efficiency of the filters.
