LOL im just considering on what type of tank/fish i should get so i can start planning for how much $ i have to save. I have a carpinte and a jag that im growing out.

Here the possible fish that i was thinking

Oscar
Amphilophus Lyonsi
Parachromis friedrichsthalii
Parachromis loisellei
Parachromis motaguensis
'Cichlasoma' trimaculatum
Vieja argentea
Amphilophus festae

The biggest i can go is 265g and i was looking at that or a 180g. So out of this list what would you put in a 180g or a 265g which im not sure what the dimensions are.

So what would you do with those two fish at the top +/- the list in a 180 or 265?

All those fish would be great. The Freddy and Loisellei may be outclassed by the Jag and Mota aggression wise. Parachromis tend to focus aggression on other Parachromis.

The list could work in a 180 I guess, but it depends on the personality of the fish, so I would suggest as big as possible. And for a 180, that would assume the best possible aggression situation.

I'd also leave the Lyonsi out. I have some and they aren't very aggressive at all.

If you can go with 265 and buy a 180 you're going to regret it. My 265 is 7'L x 2'W x 2.5'H. It's only an extra foot longer and 6" taller than a 180 but it makes a huge difference. If you need a 6' x 2' footprint, go with a 215. It's the same footprint as the 180 but 5' taller. I've heard people say height doesn't make a difference but IMO it does. Any way you can get it, more is always better. If you're limited to a 6' tank, another awesome six footer is Marinelands new 6' x 3' x 27" tank. Anyway, to sum this up, always go with the biggest tank you can afford and have space for and it's still never enough.

As far as which fish go with what, it's often trial and error.

I agree with balton. Especialy if you are going with this stock. Get the tallest tank you can for the footprint your allowed. The extra 6" of height does make a big difference,

This mix could work, it will take alot of trial and error. You may have to try different individuals of each species of fish. Make sure you always have alternate means of housing the fish, there will be injuries and aggression issues, always.

I have been managing a CA cichlid community for a couple years, it takes effort and things are always changing.

That's the ticket right there.

alright lol i was not expecting that at all. i thought there was only going to be a few fish of that stock but i will defiently look in to it. So for aggro cichlids height and length are the two key factors?

on glass cages they have a tank that is 300 Tall 96x 24 x 31 Tall

would that be fine for all these guys?

You really like using 'lol' don't you? ;)

Anyway, if you can get a 300, get a 300. Do you have any space constraints, or is this just a very early idea for something way in the future.

I RECOMMEND A 200-230 GALLON TANK with a lotta hiding spots.
That's a sexy list though and I would do it in heart beat if i had the money and the tank lol.
