Hi,
I have never owned, nor seen a freshwater ray but i have seen a few saltwater ones, like the blue spotted little rays.
I have seen these rays walking before when they swim then slow down and use their little fin feet at the back of their body for support.
Do freshwater rays do this "walk" thing too? i think it looks awesome lol

BTW i always wanted a ray, would a 6 footx 2 1/2 foot tank be wide enough for one? Cheers

Yes, freshwater stingrays use their pelvic fins to "walk" along the bottom of the tank.

A 2.5' wide tank could house some of the smaller ray species for life......histrix, magdalenae, scobina.

i think rays are usually white but pink wouldnt be too bad i guess maybe a bit of an irritation?
What sand/gravel you got?
I think i will get really fine white sand.

I'd say it's too small for a motoro, but smaller stuff would work well.

Pangong_ilong - Depending on the "reef sand", that could be leading to issues for you. What is your pH?

i wake up every morning to little imprints in the sand - from my rays spitting and searching for food AND the pelvic fin thing (they do this more then actually using there "wings")

Pangong, just keep a close eye on your ray because if he changes behaviour it may very well be some irritation or bug etc, how long you had the ray for?

LOL! Ahhh, i love that little walking thing, looks so cool!and yeah i'll probably get a Hystrix if i can find someone to bring one in for me. Anyone here keep their ray with an Aro?
