put them all together with a transparent separater for knows the behaviour of the solitary pygo, if you see attacks trough the separater, better get another tank for the other two pygos, i got the same problem, i have 2 pygos 3" each and one 8"long, the longer pygo has lived for 3 years alone, i wait to grow the small ones and the moment to put them all together.
I Agree with hugoale. Maybe put the 2 smaller ones in the larger tank and get them some tank mates as well(maybe 7-8 more i guess 20 gal per rbp). Would seem like a waste for him to be all his lonesome in a tank that large although he could end up like that monster piraya...

My single rbp is so cramped in the 40gall, the nitrates are high, water changes constantly, he is just too big for the space. I wanted to get him out of there asap. Maybe I will put the separator in and have the best of both worlds?

if you want to put the solo rbp in the 185g first and grow out some smaller ones in the mean while then put a divider in between, you can get an egg crate from hardware store and cut it to the size and make sure you secure it really good.
just keep an eye on them when its time to remove the divider, may want to re-arrange the tank to remove any established territories.
this is what I do when I add new fish to an established shoal, has worked for me like a charm many times. you can use it as reference but can't guarantee it'll work the same for you.
what I do is first feed the shoal really good then do a water change with cooler water (lower temperature helps to reduce aggression). then I use a net to scare the crap out of the shoal, add new fish and use the net to scare the crap out of all of them together. once they all settle down they'll be like best buddies.

Great ideas. Thank you so much. I am still in the set up stages...waiting on my new filter. I just wanted to get a plan of action established and read up, ask questions etc...so I have an idea of what to do, not to do etc....

always a good idea to be prepared before you get the fish, well done.
ever thought about a mix shoal? its great time to get some caribes now, maybe throw in one or two pirayas into the mix.

Where do you purchase your piranha? Isn't a caribe very similar? The supplier down the street only gets a few in at a time(rbps). That sounds great! I was lookin' into mixin' maybe some Black piranha...I dunno.

I am still new to all this...are caribes just a certain variety?...duh newbie, lol;)

You might want to talk to him and see what exactly he can order. I know my local indpendent really has a lack of bigger fish but they mainly keep the popular stuff for 50 gal and under. They can order whatever I want but its nice they dont waste their space on oscars and other giant bullies that don't mesh well.

Thank you for all of the advice and info! I ordered a custom filter from these guys too, I will ask him next time I am up there.
