Sounds like my symptoms, if you go ask for a western blot test. The ELISA test is terribly inaccurate, but much cheaper so insurance companies convince the industry to give that one.

That was my next question. The more I read about Lyme symptoms, the more it fits.

Scary crazy stuff. It sounds like Lyme is misdiagnosed often, anyone know why?

A lot of misinformation it seems. Years ago I even saw an episode of house about it. Plus as mentioned, the "go to" test has a false negative possibility.

The tests only look for antibodies. There is no current test that shows active infections. So the test only shows if you have ever had lyme. This is problematic because antibodies appear and disappear. They aren't always constantly present in the bloodstream.

It tests for reactive antibody bands. You have to have a certain number of reactive bands in certain segments in order to be positive.

My first test was negative because I only had 4 reactive bands. Second test 6 bands and a positive. Question is why so many bands for a positive test? Shouldn't one be enough? This is what doctors can't agree on, how to interpret antibody tests. The Western blot is the most thorough antibody test regularly available.

My aunt has had MS for 15 years. I talked her into a Lyme test and she was positive. She got an aggressive therapy and now 2 years later most MS symptoms are gone. Her case appears to be lyme misdiagnosed as incurable MS for 15 years.

Many lyme docs now just test people with Phantom diseases (the diseases with no known causes eg. MS, ALS, Parkinsons, rheumatoid, fibro myalgia, lupus, chronic fatigue, etc.) And have found many of them have positive lyme tests or at least some reactive antibody lyme specific bands.

Crazy, yea every time I hear about Lyme disease, it seems like I hear the misdiagnosis story first, that's too bad...

I got tested Tuesday. The doc insisted that the western blot was outdated and that the eisla (or whatever the other test is) was far superior. I insisted on the western blot anyways. They took 9 vials of blood. I go back next Tuesday (2weeks) for results. As predicted the Dr looked at me like I was crazy.

I hope you have no reactive bands :) if you do, don't panic, we'll chat.
