Long fin Oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used to have several of these (no albinos), here's a pic of my last one. I know someone in my area that currently has one and it is not albino either. I have seen them on Jeff Rapps lists if u want one. Too expensive for me to order from Jeff though being in Canada.

Any fish that has a long tails or fins always gets messed up in my community tank. I want to keep an oscar but they have big mouths and they can swallow some of my smaller "grow out" fish I keep in there from time to time.

I see them at lfs often and as someone said most of the ones I see are albino tiger. I like Oscars whether they are common or not. They're what got a lot of people into the hobby. Not a big fan of long tail anything though.

I fully understand Oscars big mouths. I have a Oscar tank it is fully there for the two Oscars every other fish is lucky to be staying with them and if they cause issues they are out. My wife wanted silver dollars so I had to grow them out in another tank until they got big enough to not fit in the Oscars mouth, even then he tried to eat them.

I personally like Oscars and agree they are one of the corner stones of the hobby. Long fin Oscars are however one of the fugliest fish I have ever seen.

Agree to disagree. I have seen some poor looking long fins but the ones that I had did not.

I will say maybe my "longfin" isn't the right word. The photo above is a great looking fish and what I'm talking about. But I did see some Vail tail oscars that I thought where pretty fuggly also.
