People go to college for degrees, and studies. They put years of work in studying these fish and set the standard for keeping these fish in a glass box, that they shouldn't even be in. My friend has a 30"+ arowana in his 400 and i think its in to small of a tank. This thread was alright at first, but now its just a bunch of wieners chewing down tank size to all make themselves feel better.....

Full grown arowana wouldn't even fit in a 240.

Get a job
Buy an appropriate tank
Enjoy your fish
Actually, you are exactly the kind of answer i hoped to avoid... you added no value to the conversation and made a poor attempt at insulting people. I started this thread to get opinions and for the most part I think people are OK with that.

Here is the video... For size reference that Oscar is 14in... The tank is 30 or 36in wide, and i still don't think its enough. This arowana would take your hand off, and dwarfs the full grown Oscar and full grown Jaguar.

The tank is a 400-450 or so. So to the comments of 125's and 180's, even 240's you need to do some reading.. This is a 36" beast and deserves its room and dedication. Not a rainy day fish keeper

He's got the right tank size for it, but thats an ugly arowana. Looks underfed, barbels missing (well this happens sometimes can't blame the guy), head looks a bit weird too. You can say it's because it's old but I've seen old arowanas that retain a good muscular form.

I have a 22-24" arowana, tank is 300G. He's probably gonna stay there for life. The only problem I see with keeping them in tanks too small for them is a lot of them develop back/spine problems and get that ugly drooping tail. To each his own, I can't put a gun to your head and tell you to buy a big tank

What are you talking about? The way I see it, there's still idiot that keep a silver arowana in a bowl. But that's his choice, and I have no problem with it, as long as the arowana look healthy, and he can keep up with the water change schedule! :D

I understand what you mean, if i was trying to convince myself it was okay to cram a 36" fish into a 125 i wouldn't like me either.

The arowana may not be the best looking, but he was a rescue. A rescue fish that is now 36" and 21 years old. You don't have to believe it, but the video shows he barley has room in a 400g. His other arowanas are prize fish, show quality.

MFK is where we strive for the best, not what we can get by with. I wish more people would remember that.

Honestly i would say an arowana needs a 300g minimum for a silver for life, just to get by as most of you guys see it...

Fishlore.com still holds true to tank sizes and is really good on arowana info. Go on that site and see the answers you get. This site use to be really good, and really police arowanas. I don't know what happened... Everyone just pats each others back and says its okay, so they can get away with it...

i think as long as the fish has sufficient turning space and self space its alrite im dumping in 3 gts and 2 oscars in a 125 in bout 3 to 6 months

That arowana looks very strange, older aros carry girth and height in their body. That aro in canucks video looks to be long, but the body is without much girth and is short from top to bottom. This is what makes the head look big.

BTW I own a 36" deep tank, the one in the video is not 30" nor 36" deep(by deep I mean front to back).

I'll get a tape measure picture for you, in the mean time, try to contribute your knowledge on this subject in a positive manner for the fish why don't you? I know you don't like me, but I am sure you think this information in this thread is bogus as well...

See this is what i mean by no value added. I am not trying to cram anything into anywhere, I am mearly looking for opinions. Allow me to answer a few things you have mentioned. That tank your friend has is not close to 400 gallons I would have to see a full shot with something to judge it ( you said it is either 30 or 36 inches, you dont even know?) I have seen 7 or 8 yeard old aros in smaller than 125 tanks that were healthy and looked great.... you stated you were new to fish keeping so i am curious where you get your VAST knowledge?
I did not want to start any petty fights just looking for info... this is a problem with this site, one reason i have been a member for several years and not so many posts..... number of posts means nothing!!!!!

See post #69, I basically said the same thing you have, only before you did. Maybe you missed that post.
