Longear Sunfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm getting a baby arapima gigas here in a few days and want to see if anybody has a baby. He will be 5in and I would like to know if u can train them to eat prepared foods such as krill or even pellets?

My longear male is about 3 1/2 inches long and I just observed him pecking at the Largemouth Bass that is about 4-5 inches. But its only when the Bass roams near his territory, which weirdly enough he established under an ornament. Is this normal behavior?

I tried feeding them Wardley Cichlid Floating Pellets and they wont go to the surface to eat them. After a while when they fall to the bottom they go after it and then spit it out. I tried Wardley Spirulina Discs and they dont like those either.

Any suggestions?

Ok, reading these messages made me decide I will get a native tank this summer. I have a good spot where I can get some nice longears and some warmouths. Has anyone had a warmouth before?

i am sure a few people have kept them, go under the search for this forum and you should find some info on them

Ok , I tried : Wardley Spirulina Discs, Wardley Cichlid floating pellets, and I purchased Tetra Cichlid Sticks.

My Longears and the new Bluegill just ignore it entirely.......

This sucks!

I hope they dont starve themselves..

Any suggestions?

I haven't had any of my fish eat tetra cichlid sticks. They're pretty nasty and messy in the tank too.

I fed mine floating food sticks, sinking carnivore pellets, hikari floating cichlid pellets (of all types), shrimp pellets of several brands, HBH supersoft both green and red bottle.
