Longear Sunfish

I was talking to someone about fishing in New York State and the person has mentioned this fish which I then went and looked up. I must say that I really like the way this thing looks and was wonndering if anyone keeps them or knows much about them?

sunfish are pretty much north american cichlids. Longears and bluegills and the like pretty much fill the role of convicts. I'd love to keep some centrarchids in the future with cichlids.
