Longest non eating fish thread. 13" id shark just went 4 months!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had a puffer that was almost an inch that starved himself for 1 month and then kicked the bucket

I have a 25" ID shark that recently took almost a year to eat. He was moved from his tank to a huge indoor pond. He also went 6 months a few years ago. I am wondering if this is a common thing with ID Sharks.

my columbian sharks went off food for about a month... i thought they were in the breeding mode because they would lay on top or side of each with no interest in eating.. they are fine now.

Have you tried beef heart? That will usually lure them off of live food. That's what mine eats and at the LFS he was eating nothing but guppies. They're extremely hard to get on pellets or anything like that, I'd think you could actually starve them to death, especially at that size, since they're pretty stubborn.

Not a chance on that happening-
He is now close to the 2 foot mark......

I think this is common, I met and ID shark years ago that was around 30"s in an 800 gallon, they claimed it hadn't eaten in 9 months, looked fine though....

Of what? Starving him to death or getting him off feeders?

I've gotten large fish off of feeders so it's not the size, it's more likely the individual.

Oh well, you're obviously doing something right ;)

Wow, your id looks good, is he the one in your avitar. Can't wait till mine is that big. I'm glad mine started eating again cause pretty soon I have to move him again. I hope this don't start his, no eat diet, all over again.

I accidentally 15 years ago, my wife was pregnant & very sick, in the hospital 4 weeks straight. then the in house nurse, baby & so on..

Back to the topic on hand. I basically forgot that I had a 20g high in the lower level of our raised ranch. we were not using that floor... 6 months later... 4 inches of water left burned out HOB filter.. dang those 2 angels were still there...

I also rescued a 55g from a school, went from June 17th to Sept 5th with no food, filter or water changes. had black & red algea on the sides & you couldnt see through the water.. I thought the tank was dead. but I pulled out 15 to 20 fish.. 4 Danios, 3 Angels, 2 SilverDollars and a handfull or more other misc. fish.... course there were likely some hunts in the dark in this tank.
