Longevity of gravel

You are suppost to replace you gravel every leap year that falls on a blue moon. if you do not do this you will run into some catastrophic problems with your tank.

To make it easier and to spread out the cost I just scoop a couple handfuls out during each water change and throw a couple of handfuls in. I call it the partial gravel change.

This also doesn't bother the BB in my gravel too much.

The only reason to replace it I can think of is if its black gravel and the color wears off. Hopefully you don't have rainbow gravel, like some members of the forum.

lol...everyone makes noob mistakes now and then. Thanks for being so understanding everyone..haha. What if the fish had a disease in the previous tank with that gravel. Would simply rinsing it clean using hot water do the trick?
