Yah, no releasing back into the wild. If you can't care for them long term, then I'd go ahead and start looking for someone to take them.

agree with this.......:grinno:

releasing our big predatory fish into the wild just causing a new problem to our environment...

just like the snakehead cases in the US

You put them in the tank with the LN... But the bigger problem is that you want to release the fish back into the wild which is a BIG no no thats how you release exotic diseases into the wild which our native fish have no defenses against.

I agree with you one hundred percent but what about species that are native to those water ways? For example I got my gar out of the Ohio river when he was really small, prolly about 3". So is it bad to let him back into the wild if I can't house him anymore and noone will buy him?

Even native species. Was he exposed to any non-native species while in a tank?

The issue is not only release of non-native species into our local waterways, but possibly the release of pathogens that even native species could be introduced to in the aquarium, especially if they are housed with non-native, tropical species. We don't want to spread a foreign pathogen into a native species in the wild accidentally, no matter how remote the possibility is.

What kind of gar do you have, and how big? I'm building a pond in my backyard right now. Once its done, I could take just about any size native fish off of you (as long as its not a gator gar....).
