All gar will take prepared foods. If your not getting them to take it you are not really trying... I've said this a thousand times... PATIENCE and PERSISTENCE is how you work with these fish.

i starved the 18" longnose and F/S for over a month and they still wouldnt take prepared food. then the juvi longnose didnt eat for about 4 or 5 days and i threw a floating pellet next to his snout and he ignored it.

Like I said it will not always work and it is counterproductive to starve the fish. You need to train the fish.. not will it or beat it into submission...

well i did get the 18" longnose to eat shrimp before. i put it on the end of a clothes hanger and wiggled it in front of him. he hasnt touched it since. and i have also tried that with the F/S and all he does is swim away. and the juvi longnose just sits there. and he does the same with pellets.

Keep working at it and be very persistent about it. They will eventually accept Frozen or prepared feeds. Trying once or twice or now and again is not going to cut it. You need to offer the food every time you feed the fish. Pick a method and use it every time....
