Whats the average growth rate for longnose gar? Just got mine at size 20cm. Im wondering when he can join the other big boys

Can get another 12-14 in 6-8 months with good diet, frequent water changes, and clean water. Slow after that.

Agreed with above, keep in mind that I regard the minimum tank perameters for this species as 12 feet long by 7 feet wide, this species can damage its snout/jaws easily.
Adult size is from three to a little over 6 feet long.

Diet: never feed them goldfish, but other fish (whole or fillets) such as minnows, cichlids, trout chunks work,as do market prawns, live insects, krill and pellets

12-14 cm?

12-14"?

What are typical wild sizes for 1 and 2 year olds? 5 year olds?

An additional 12-14inches in the 1st year.

1st year should about 16-18 inches. Slows down after the first year, so maybe 20-24in the 2-2.5y. At 5yrs I’m guessing 30in plus. This is from prior posts and members.

Thanks for prompt and courteous service, Forte! :)

I miss my "noseys" and "tweezeys". Had several in prior life in upstate NY. None since. Have been carrying a plan on paper to go back north and catch me a 4'-er or bigger for an exhibit. It'd be a fun trip. I don't think I'd have to go back to the Great Lakes, perhaps can luck out in a state somewhere closer to FL than the Great Lakes states.
