Longnose Gar Update

So I got home from college a few hours ago, and I decided to check on my two longnose gars to see how big they are, but they didn't turn out to be the 24" that my parents thought they were. They currently reside in my goldfish pond.

These gars sure have bulked up for winter! Both gars are about 16" long and are displaying an awesome spotted pattern.

They were surprisingly active even though the water in the pond was fairly cold, but they were still reasonably easy to net.

Is their growth on track for the average YOY longnose gar in captivity? They were about 14" when I put them in the pond in early August, and they added 2" in length and a considerable amount of girth.

I'll try to get some next weekend since I'm in Florida for the next week. I'll have to test out the new camera my dad just got; it's able to take pictures underwater so I should be able to get some interesting photos.
