nice gar!

awsome! so i guess in a few days ill have 3 (all they have left) new baby longnoses in my grow out :)

what kind of growth rate can i expect on thses guys with readily acessable food? faster than a florida? what kind of inch per month rate?

basically, wondering how long it will be till they can move in and replace my deceased florida (R.I.P. buddy)

any particular things i shud be careful of with these guys over the other gars?

Growth is hard to predict but you should expect these fish to gain at least 2 inches per month with regular feeding at a high temp. Growth will slow after 12 to 15 inches but may continue to 20 if you keep temps high and feed a lot.

Be wary of spooking these fish as they are very prone to snout and spinal injury (Especially when young). Try to not keep them with aggressive tankmates as these fish can not compete at all with more aggressive fish.

I highly suggest you raise these fish in a small tank at first without takemates and step them up as they grow. Placing them in a competitive situation and in a large tank right away is not the best method to grow them out.

will do bro, i have a spare 10 gallon im cycling right now for them, just the 3 of them , daily 75%water changes like i did on my baby pbass. i wont be adding thek to the "big guys" till they hit around 8"s or so.

also realize even at 8" they are much thinner and more frail than the other gar species. i have mine in a 30 w/ a ropefish and a few loaches. the tank is in a spare bedroom that has low traffic to avoid spooking. he does well in there. keep us updated.

have three of these at work maybe 6-7'' could i keep one in a 48x18x24. I feel sorry for them noone one wants them and they dont get fed unless i do it
