Longnose gar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you could house them in there for a while. maybe a year? not too sure abt after.

a year mey be a safe estimate.

we have a display tank with a 10" red aro and 6 retic ray pups do you think it would be a good idea to put one in there, the tank is 8x2x3.

it could work, but regardless i would wait until the gar is a bit bigger before putting it into that tank. even a 10" longnose gar is very skinny and somewhat fragile. perhaps waiting until it's 16" would be a better move.

one of the main issues is the aggression of the arow...i have no experience with asian arows, but if your particular individual is aggressive, it will not work well with the gar and may contribute to a broken back injury. if the arow is pretty docile, then it could work as i've kept various arows with gars with few problems (again, this can vary from one individual to another, let alone species).

the other issue is the ray pups...gars are curious creatures and you wouldn't want the gar inadvertently damaging an eye or worse of a small ray if it chooses to take a swipe at it. it's a combo that could work, but just be aware of the risks.

again, i would wait until the gar has a bit more length/weight on him before adding him to the tank...but you're right, it would make quite the impressive display--
