how big do longnose and shortnose get and whats there average growth?

longnose, not for the beginning gar keeper, 36" max, skittish, grows fast.
shortnose, def not for the beginning gar keeper, 20" max, very very skittish, pysco active fish, grows slower from my experience, DO NOT KEEP THIS GAR UNTIL U HAVE EXPERIENCE AS A GAR KEEPER!! this is a very psyco, suicidal, active fish. I personally have never seen such an active gar.
according to ur sig ur lookin for shortys, longnose and trops. out of those 3 if you want a gar get the trop. honestly if you want a gar get a florida.

i already got 2 florida lol iv kept 1 for 2 years

still at 14 can u supply a tank for a 36" fish?
and shortys are pysco, suicidal and very hard to find. IMO they rank up there with spotted or cubans. Actually i have seen cuban gar available more than shortys.

ah i see 36" isnt a problem even tho i dont have a tank that big for now as you said 2 years it hits 2 feet for me thats pretty slow i can get a bigger tank in 2 years as my tank is currently 150 but i wont get a longnose for now then until iget the bigger tank

around 2 maybe 2.5 you would prob see that size yeah. that would be best man. shorts are very hard to find. get a trop. thats my next gar prob

i see gl man

Lepisosteus platyrhincus is right... The longnose gets a little big and the shortnose are a little skittish.
The trop would be the way to go, but I myself am still looking to get one so they are a little hard to get. I would say Florida, but if you have a connect for a shortnose then go ahead. LP is right that they are very skittish and what not, but if you don't have other fish with it, and you have a decent sized tank and can care for then it why not. They are a true gar and therefor are a great fish to have. Also if you are going to get Shortnose I would recommend that you get a pair :)

longnose expect 14-18" within a year. don't think 36" thou a friend has2 3yr old longnoses ina pond ~28"
