it all depends on you. of course the black will bring out the blue/black and the white will bring out the silver. ive seen a mix with white and black "pepper" and it looked good with fronts!
i personally like the natural light tones of sand with natural light instead of the black sand with neon or coral lightiing.
i think black substrate is better then white substrate..but thats my opinion..but if I had to do it all over..I think I would have gone with pool sand..the tannish/brownish color looks better..

I don't know, I really like yours with the black sand. I think the tanish sand would take away from the look of it, the black makes the fronts really stand out.
personally i would go with crushed coral or some kind of natural looking sand, if you have some good lights it really makes the fish stand out and doesn't look dirty
I personally like the black tahitian moon sand . I dont have any but want some LOL. I have the yellowy or golden sand mixed with fine black gravel, it looks ok. I find the black sand with black background look very good. I also saw one person who had fronts and their colors really popped on black sand and neon blue background. It made the blue brighter and the black sand made the black stripes look inky black. I might test that out sometime. I usually see the blue background with white sand and i dont care for it but it looks really good with the black sand and the lights in the blue spectrum.
