Hello fellow freinds of one of the pound for pound most powerful gamefish in the world!! I have had a little sucsess breeding Cichla, but lately things have come to a sreetching holt. Can female Cichla become egg bound or constipated with eggs?? I have a female that is bloated in the belly. This pair is always prespawn mode all the time, but no eggs r laid anymore. I use tanins, ph is 6.5, all my pairs r isolated in 10ft tanks. Can Peacocks have this problem and is there a cure? Thankyou !

Not sure about an answer, but that would be sweet if you can post some pics of your pairs and their tanks!

i know that north American bass can become egg bound, with stress, weather, and cold water. Did you try to raise the water temp a little? or is it already high?

ok i cant answer your quierie as say but i can tell you this

for a couple of weeks drop ya temp a little say 27 degeres use ammo salts slowlet over the peried of four weeks rais your temp to 30 degres once its been stable do a water change of like 30 percent and they should lay and spawn

Thanks Brian, knowing lrg mouth can get it is agood start.I have done alot of diff temp combos but never went above 87f.

just rember cichla are not bass the only similaraty is the common name has bass in it there are actully cichlids so what works for bass will not always work for them and the mating habbits of cichla and bass are diffrent

Thanks! lower all the way to 60? U talking about epsom salts? I have heard that doing epsom salt treatments, but I dont think i would ever drop that low. I have blasted fish with cold water to drop them down to upper 70s then start to bring it up right away.Never causes ich in big healthy monsters...

im nsure of the f side but i have had my tank down to 25c by acident btw but they seemed fine this was for like 2 weeks they were just slow.

the salts im talking about are amozon salts we get them in australia i dont think its salt though it makes the water more acidic as our tap water is very alkaline here

i also have used amona amazon sand ?
