I just bought a Long Nose gar yesterday for what I thought was a really good deal for 12 bucks. I bring him home and he isnt in the tank 3 hours and I go into the fish room and the entire upper half of his mouth is ripped off. I believe my Needle nose (fake gar) was the culprite. I dont think hes gonna live with out the ability to catch live food anymore.

I was really upset. Ive wanted a gar for along time but I never purchase fish stuff inless I can find a real good deal and my LFS had him for $12. Hes still alive this morning but I dont know how long he is gonna last. I never imagined the needle fish would really bother him.

wow thats horrible I never seen anything like that from a needle nose

I dont know what too. Theres no chance of him living a long normal life. He could never eat a feeder again.

He is also going to be very prone to a bacterial infection now..Sorry to hear man. :irked:

fish are capable of living and adapting to some strange situations and injuries. im not quite sure how he would eat even dead or commercial food if 1/2 of his beak is missing, but you never know.

keep the tank he's in salted and throw some mela/pimafix in the tank to try and help heal him. you just may be surprised at what your fish is capable of adapting to.

IDK, maybe ytou shut put it down or something. He has to be in some major pain, I mean imagine if half of your face was ripped off. I know it's not a human, but still. IDK.

if any of his upper jaw is still there I would quarentine him in his own tank and put in small minnows with him dont be surprized if he lives to hunt again
