just wondering if there is a catch limit on those nasty asian carp or silver carp and if there arent why doesent the goverment get boats and stir up the water and let the fish hop in that boat..... then use if for feeding poor people.

No there isnt a catch limit, they want them out of there....The problem is finding people do cast net the canal and people to bowfish the river....not to mention how much water that is to actually cover...its mind boggling...there never going to get rid of them all, but the more dead and removed the better....even tho they breed like rabbits. Conservation around where I live give you high fives when they see you pull one out!

I dont get it either. Why don't they bring fishermen in and start catching them.
I know that you cant get them all, but it can feed so many people here and in starving nations. The river is full of food, but people are starving in Haiti and other places. but i guess it is no money in it. Shame on US government

Saw these guys on River Monsters last night, funny I have only heard of them and I am within walkin distance of the river... Yet to experience the "flying" carp with my own eyes actually. But what I do hear is that they have literally taken over the Illinois river and are really spreading quite quickly.

These fish can survive for such long periods of time as a result of their gill structure. They are filter feeders, meaning their gills catch EVERYTHING that passes through them. What kind of competition can a walleye come up with going against a fish that basically can live without a food source and just "eats" the water itself?

Anyway, good luck shocking the entire Illinois to get rid of the little jerks.

It would be better to just teach the poor people to fish.

its never gonna happen if no one starts working on it...people always expect someone else to step up to the plate, if you want it to happen that bad then start a carp fishing contest up or something

There are commercial fishermen on the Illinois river that target the silver & bighead carp.
There is also a processing plant near Bath Illinois that turn them into fish meal & fertiliser.
Bath Illinois is also the home of the redneck fishing tournament for these fish, as seen on the national geographic channel.
When the tournament is done, the carp that were caught are taken to the processing plant.
Some efforts are being made.
