Alligator lizards are mean SOB's - they've got about the same temprement as a timor monitor...

yeah, ive caught little guys that snapped at me when i picked them up. I guess this one was too scared to attempt to fight back...

doesn't mean I don't want one as a "just to look at" pet.

I didn't say you shouldnt get one, the bigger ones i catch don't seem to be as aggressive for some reason. I was considering setting up a cage for them cause there are some really nice ones where i live, like really bright red and orange ones. I bet they would tame if you handled them enough...

There's one guy that's got to be a good 2 feet long that repeatedly finds his way into the office and is mean as all hell. I have to throw a towel over him to capture or he whips and bites up a storm.
would you be willing to ship him next time you find it? at 2' that's got to be a southern alli, one of my fav. lizards. i used to have some as a kid and about 4yrs ago had a northern that had 6 babies.

do it, they are really beautiful lizards and very easy to care for, ime. they do tame down a bit after a while, you have to give them time to adjust to the cage before handling and then you have to go slow. ime, northerns are generally more laid back than southerns but the southerns are a more beautiful lizard.

I posted some pics of my alli a few months back on here. Coolest and easiest lizard to care for. I let him go since then but he didnt mind being held by me at all but when i caught him it was a diff story. They dont draw blood but do bite hard and often.

I would just drop a meal worm in front of my alli and he would snatch it up

A lot of them hatch in the backyard each year, but they can be pretty elusive if I come across a juvenille I'll post about it on here and ship that.

I won't take adults or sub adults, though.
