I have a blue spotted salamander. I feed it crickets, worms. Found mine in a swimming pool skimmer 1.5years ago. I see him maybe 5 times a year, and thats when I look for him. Mines in a 20gal with live plants.

Back when i first setup the 20gal, the soil is now 60% soil, 40% coco fiber

What it did look like before most of it died back, now I have to grow most of it back this summer

Great article thanks.
When In lived in Long Island NY they sprayed "safe" poison to kill mosquitos in area marsh, river and year later not one salamander showed up .

Before that used to see them late winter, spring.

I remember those days, I grew up next to JFK airport, we used to have a ton of nice native wildlife-- and after the west nile sprays that all went away.

If I recall the JFK marsh areas had breeding colonies of salamanders. Perfect areas for them as lots wild areas by airport and off limits to people .
I was by wading river and within one year the salamanders were gone and toads and frogs were rare to se or hear at all while once were all over.

Those "safe" mosquito sprays are lethal on herps .

lol yes you never see them. I recall your first post when you got him. The terrarium looks way nicer now. The plants have done nicely.

The salamander looks healthy and good.
