sell the other fish and keep the gar is better advice...

I agree with this advice, but it's all up to you in the end.

Many MFKers have kept gars with arowana and/or peacock bass with mixed results. Most of us recommend against the combination, but a few of us have had some success. Those of us who say "Give it a try." recommend watching for even the smallest signs of aggression to avoid any life-threatening injuries to any of the fish, but many of us say "Don't try it!" in order to be sure to avoid any injuries to any of the fish.

The personalities of the individual fish definitely play a major part in the decision to house them all together, so I recommend against this combination if there are currently any signs of aggression between the fish that you intend to house the gar with.

We could discuss the ideal tankmates for gars for quite some time, so I'll leave it at this: It's all up to you in the end. You're bound to catch some grief from either side no matter what you do, so be sure to make sure that you're on top of things when you make your choice.

this is true but the way this person acts makes me think he would prefer the otehrs over the gar. Though the gar is 1000000000000000000 times better than the other fish.:headbang2

might be a dumb question, but why get rid of the gar? which fish would make a bad tankmate for the gar?...i know they are attracted to silvery fish. i see a small orange fish and an arowana.

Most people on this thread are more experienced Gar-keepers than I am, so most of below is just a query.

I am of the "other camp" and have been successfully keeping Florida Gars with Silver Arowana for close to a year now. (I even had 2 Gator Gars, with 2 FL Gars with the Silver Aro for a few months.)

However, even those of us who have had success with keeping Aro with FL Gar will not advice this combination unless the Silver Aro is significantly (at least 50 to 100%) larger than the FL Gars. Or so I think..

What you experts think? (OP's picture suggests the Gar and the Aro are about the same size..)

Cheers,
Sid

PS: My Silver Aro is about 20+" and the FL Gars are about 14". They have been tank-mates since the Aro was about 8"-10" and the Gars were about 6".
