lookin for a fish thatl keep my tank a little cleaner

I've got a 6" L91 Red Beacon pleco with my 5 1/2 " JD male. The last month my JD has grown a lot, when I put them in together, the pleco was 6" and still is. The JD has nearly doubled his size. They were put into my 55g at the same time, and the JD is very aggresive towards the pleco. However, I've made a rock the JD cannot get into for the pleco's safety. Even if the pleco comes out at night, the JD gives him grief. Don't get me wrong, the pleco will fight back and can withstand some damage, but I think I'll eventually end up taking my pleco out.

I took in a 10" common pleco too and tried him in the same tank with the same result. You've already got the JD in the tank, so he's already gonna be very territorial to any addition.

I'd like to hear other people suggestions, as I've not had the best of luck myself. I'm heading towards taking the pleco out and just keeping the male JD in the tank by himself. It's only 55 gallons and I don't want it overstocked when he gets larger.

well i hate to say but i had the same problem and i ended up have to give my JD away, in my case the pleco was about twice the size of the JD and it still picked the fins off the pleco

You can try adding more cichlids. If the JD has other fish to deal with it wont focus it's wrath on the one poor pleco. It doesn't always work, my male JD is one mean fish- even my turtle is scared of him- but it works a lot of times. Try a GT and maybe a few good sized convicts.

Ive never dealt with a JD but I basically drop 3 dozen feeder golds in a week, has cut down aggression in my tank by alot.

My blood parrots pick the feeders to shreds instead of bugging anything else. The gouramis take out some vengeance on them too. If they float to the top my butterfly fish eats em or picks the skeleton clean depending on mood. if they sink my eclipse cat will eat them. As of right now I cant get him to touch anything but golds. The shop I got him fro grew him out on rosys and golds.

But maybe a school of something larger like silver dollars that are fast, school tight and can handle abuse would get his attention off the pleco?

One more idea if you run gravel install an under gravel filter with no caps and release 6-10 kuhli loaches under it. Theyll thrive under there probably breed and clean up under there. you may see one pop up every now and again.

Pretty sure I still have a couple kuhlis under my sand lol, havent seen one in months.
