It would be cool if it were from the congo river so somewhere where the bichirs are located. My poly tank is kind of boring and I would like something to swim in the upper to middle region of the tank.
Looking at calvus or some kind of ctenopoma. Can be big, but nothing over 12''. Preferably African and near the range of the bichir, because I like to keep fish with each other that could run into each other in the wild. (not a big fan of all world tanks.) Needs to be big enough to not be lunch. I keep upperjaws, and do have a little endli as well. Tank I am looking to keep them in is a 90, no flames please, I know polys get big, looking for something for now when they get big they can be moved.
Any suggestions?:D:popcorn:
Any colorful fish in the congo that might occupy something other than mainly the bottom? I'd like it to be active, but not aggressive or mean.

Congo Tetras are large robust bodied tetras that grow to 10cm. Prefer medium to large schools which swim at mid level int he aquarium. They can live 10+ Years. The colour is very intense on adult fish that are fed prime diets, and they would be an excellent compliment to the drab-camouflage that the polyterus have. They show up best against dark backgrounds, wood and rock, and plants.

African Butterfly fish also grow to about 10cm and swim with their head at surface. They will not interact with the polys (and neither the polys with them) and will mostly disregard the congos. One or several can be kept. They require a lid over the tank as they can jump. They are like Miniature Longfin arowanas, but are not constantly pacing the tank.

I'm with you though, I like Biotope tanks. The mix of fish in the areas just look like they compliment each other.

Never thought about the congo tetras, they have those at my lfs. Didn't think they got that big. Looks like a great fish to add, I have kept butterfly fish before. The congo looks like a good alternative to ctenopoma if I want to keep it congo.

African tetras, Mormyrids,African Knifefish, African Butterfly fish,
Synodontis, Hemichromis, Pelvicachromis,kribs

Congos are very quick. and 4" is a fair size for a robust fish, though I'm not sure what size your unmentioned poly species get to.

As for the butterfly, Id be surprized if the other fish even know they are alive, or even so, a fish!.

I have upperjaw, I have a delhezi, senegal, ornate, and would like to get a palmas.b to add a little color. Ornate and Endli will out grow the tank I know and can be moved. I would like to keep polys in the 90 though, because it is open for fish. All thats in there is a jack dempsey and polys but the jack can be moved. Biggest poly currently is 11-12'' ornate. Maybe it isn't a good idea, 90 isn't alot of room.
Filtration is not a concern its hooked up to an AC100 and FX5.:D

I'd remove the Jack an try some Congos. If they get eaten by the polys I would buy some more to grow out. Then late remove the larger poly species to a larger tank. But- just my opinion on what I would do.

Lets have some photos of the tank and residents so far?
