i run a theo 400watt and it is great!
i think i will buy a theo 400w
ck out what i did with my 75g tank cinse i have a blue background i bought a piece of stiro foam insulation at home depot and cut it to fit on all 3 sides of my tank and painted blue and tape it to the tank, that keeps my water on my 75g really warm and the heater doesnt have to work that much. i think i will do the same with my 220g
going to the lfs tomorow

Ranco controller and titanium elements.

I would use 2 smaller heaters whichever heater you choose. Less chance of frying your fish when one goes haywire. Plus if one fails completely the temp is hopefully going to stay high enough to keep them alive if it takes you a couple days to notice.

Agreed. Using two smaller of almost everthing on your tanks is usually better because it gives you the security of having a backup if one fails (this goes for heaters, pumps, filters etc). Depending on the temperature in the room your tank is in, you should be good with two large Ebo Jager heaters. I use those and have been very happy with them. They are sturdy and reliable. I use two 250W on a 270G and they keep my temp very stable. The temperature in my house is 68 and the (2) 250W Ebo Jagers have no problem getting the tank to 86 degrees (the only reason I know they can get my tank that hot is because I was treating an ich outbreak).

They're only $25 each at Drs. Fosters and Smith and Bigalsonline, so you get more bang for your buck than with the titanium heaters and you also have the backup security that I mentioned. Someone mentioned that they are eyesores in your tank, but just throw them in your sump, sight unseen!
