Looking for a larger lizard need ideas.

On the other hand, something like a Savannah monitor is plenty cheap. The caging and food for one isn't cheap though, and you'll blow through a few hundred dollars in no time at all. It's all in how you look at things.
A Bluetongue may be moderately pricey, but maintaining it is easy and less expensive. The maintenance is the cost you want to look at, not the price of the lizard itself. My suggestions would be a Bluetongue or a Uromastyx.
 
I was Gunna say a dwarf caiman but that's a little much. But I would go with a breaded dragon they grow nice and big and are fun to keep. Here's a few pics of my caiman and his enclosure just for some eye candy. :)

Blue tongue skink, there is even several subspecies and population morphs to chose from

Here is the main reason i like blue tongues. They arent afraid at all, very personable and what i like the most is you dont have to feed them live food so no crickets needed.

Oh, and german giant bearded dragons dont really exist anymore. They have to be 24 inches at least to be a true german giant and they have all been bred into the normal lines nowdays
