There are actually many more than just those that I posted, but the ones in my post are the species that are most commonly available.

They didn't know what species it was when they posted the other thread, but it was a Mastacembelus armatus.

If you don't plan to upgrade I would highly reccomend M. Dayi. ime similar aggression level at the TT but stay about the size of the smaller TT ( about 18"-24" from my research). they are commonly sold as Black leopard eels. the pictures do not do this species justice both of mine are more colorful then my Tire track. they do look fairly drab when 4-6" but quickly get the larger leopard like spots.

Do you plan on upgrading your tank size? If so, I'd go with either another TT, or a fire eel. If not, then you still have a ton of options:

Macrognathus aculeatus

Macrognathus circumcinctus

Macrognathus aral

Macrognathus zebrinus

Macrognathus siamensis (the most common spiny)

Macrognathus pancalus

Mastacembelus dayii

And there are many African species that would work as well, but they are less common than the Asians, and I'm not as familiar with the various Africans.
Just noticed that the dayi pic didn't work, so here's another one:

wow that is very nice gonna have to look into it who sells these online and thanks to all
I don't know of any online store that has them, usually people get them at lfs's either labled as "black spotted eels" or mislabled as other species (usually TT's, zig-zags, or peacocks).
