Looking for a positive Geo. Jurupari ID

Mine are very fun to watch interact, I have 5 and they constantly chase each other around. In the past I've had single specimens but I highly suggest getting a few more, in a group they're much more interesting (if you have the space).

This is slightly off topic but... I was interested in getting one of these guys (S. jurupari), but was told that, even though they are rather peaceful, if you put them in a tank with other spangled fish (like a JD or a blue acara), they will go all Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde on me and will end up killing the other spangled fish. Ever heard of this or had any experience with this?

all i've tried mine with so far is a spotted ctenopoma twice his size and microglanis iheringi catfish, and they all completely ignore each other, so i couldnt really say.

I've only ever seen conflict between jurupari and jurupari or between jurupari and leucosticta. As for non-eartheating tankmates, jurupari and leucosticta don't seem to mind anything that doesn't harass them.

Even at full size, they are notoriously difficult to sex and exhibit nearly zero sexual dimorphism.

The only way to determine sex is to wait for a pair to form, and then see which one lays the eggs.

Even venting is nearly impossible with these fish.

Thanks for the info... I'm really tempted to try a jurupari... we'll see. My LFS has some right now and they look great!
