So I'm considering new things for my 75 gallon which is currently housing a 9" green terror. Wanting a wet pet and I've heard many good things about puffers. My question is, are there any freshwater puffers (don't want to deal with brackish water just yet) that would do well solo in a 75 gallon? I have 0 experience with these so y'all will have to be specific. Thanks in advance for y'all's responses!

Any decent size puffer that will fit for life in a 75G is basically going to act more like a pet rock than a wet pet tbh...

You could maybe try your hand at a group of 3-5 C.Asellus (South american puffer) but be forewarned, they most likely will require teeth trimming at some stage even with constant hard shell diet...

There are the smaller species of congo puffer that doesn't seem to be exported any more due to unrest in the county. Reaches 3" and very peaceful with other puffers apparently

Tetraodon schoutedeni - spotted Congo puffer. Have been available more and more the last year or so, although still a little pricey.
I believe this is what I was referring to. How much are they generally?

Normally congo puffer refers to T.Miurus puffer, which is a piscivore = definitely not fish friendly lol

Its also another lurker that likes hiding in the sand...

The only decent size (decent being a stretch) I can think of is a modestus (golden, avocado, bronze puffer depending on who you talk to). They top out at like 4-4.5" max. Very interactive for their size though.

South American puffers (SAP's) can be kept in a group, but are a pain if you ask me. Teeth will need to be trimmed periodically and they can be some darty nervous sob's.

Out of the lurkers I think the hairy puffer is the most active, but its still very inactive.

Fahaka is the only decent size fw puffer wet pet besides the huge mbu, but a 75 won't cut it for long.

It's one of the most vicious puffers out there and will stay buried 95% of the time.

The Wet Spot had them on their list for $200. I know a few people that have them in tanks with other fish. They've completely ignored the other fish, including guppies. I've read they get anywhere from 4-5".
