Hi everyone,

I’m really interested in getting started with selling rare fish as a business, but I’m not sure where to begin. I love fish with all my heart and i would do anything to work with fish, I’d love to hear from experienced members about:

How to find and make reliable contacts, suppliers or farms that supply rare or exotic fish

How to start in this business where should i go or who should i meet.

Any common challenges or things to watch out for when starting this kind of business

I dont know if starting a business like this would be the right thing for me, maybe collecting them or raising them would be the thing for me, i just know that i want to work with fish and i love rare fish the most.

I’m looking to gain as much knowledge as possible about the rare fish industry so I can better understand how it works. Most importantly, I’d like to learn how to get started.

I know that there is a lot of experienced members here on MFK but i can't really understand how this site works.

Also, if there are any threads or resources on this forum that I should read, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks so much for your help!

You can get lots of information on fishkeeping here, the site being Monster Fish Keepers.

As for starting and running a business, I don't know.

Thank you for your input, Mr. Polish Corgi Betting Bot.

In any case, trying to establish a fish-import business because you like rare fish is like trying to establish a car manufacture company because you like cars, or deciding to build your own apartment complex because you like living in buildings (I mean, how hard could it be?) Your time would be much better served by acquiring a breeding group of an in-demand fish and making some money on the side instead of going all-in on what is sure to be a massive commitment.

I agree with starting small, best thing to do for just about any business.

Acquiring some rare fish and getting them to breed would be most cost effective long term but might take a looong while to get them started, they might be rare for the simple reason that people havent been able to breed them in aquariums.

As far as making connections id say visit every aquarium / fish store near you and talk to the people there about your plans, Maybe they have some great ideas or they might even want to partner up.
