hey all, does anyone know any online trusted websites or really popular websites that sell really large cichlids. like i already bought a jack dempsey from jeff from tangledupwithcichlids but are there any other websites? he didn't have the jaguar cichlid i was looking for. jeff has large fish like 8-9 inches and stuff for sale. if anyone knows any other website or fish seller that sells large, aggressive cichlids ( like red devils, oscars, jaguars, dovii) that are like 7 inches or bigger, etc please hit me up i have a 55 gallon thats empty and i wanna fill it up with a already adult cichlid ( preferably aggressive), thanks.

Don't pay attention to that clown. :^) Although he does know his fish. You could maybe get away with a single red devil or oscar (though a 75 would be better), but adult Dovii are 2 feet long, half the length of your 55. They actually need around a 300 gallon tank that is 8 feet long. Jaguars are also large around 18 inches and would be cramped in a 55. Why don't you go for a medium sized cichlid like a Texas, Female festae, mini-dovii (Cichlasoma grammodes). Salvini are also nice, aggressive mid sized cichlids that would do well in your size of tank. There are a host of interesting aggressive cichllids that would do well in your tank, but if you go for the really big guys you will end up being disappointed as they will be unhappy, and likely unhealthy fish.

yeah i know i was just giving an example. im looking for oscars, red devils, umbees, etc. not a dovii i know that. cause i bought a 8 inch gold jack dempsey from tangledupincichlids and he wasnt as big and thick like a red devil or oscar like i had expected. im looking for fish like those. the big thick fishes like at 7-8 inches they are already big and thick. not like the dempsey which grow longer not thicker and wider. i know jeff at tangledupincichlids sells some but is there anyone else u know that sells fish at larger sizes (5 inches +)????

Check craigslist. There's tons of large Oscars and red devils for sale. And usually cheap too.

Your planning on keeping this new large fiah in the 55 with the adult jd ? Why not just fatten up the jd 55 gal really isnt large enough for what your trying to do. Umbee get way to big as well. Google the fish your interested in. 55 wouldnt be good for any of them

Why not just get a flowerhorn? They only get about 8", and you wouldn't even be able to fit a oscar in a 55, they easily get over the width of the tank in length. Mine's 13" personally.

lol whats so funny :P
Spend an entire day in your broom closet and let us know how that feels. Now, imagine how a full grown Oscar would (maybe?) feel spending its entire life in the same proportionally sized space.

Op think about bioload as well large fish in a small tank besides it not being suitable you"ll also have to do allot of wc to maintain water quality. No amount of filtration will solve that problem
