I broke one of the the cardinal rules of fish keeping...sorry guys. I bought a Fei Feng without researching first. I've been trying to do some, but it's still kind of vauge. Anyone have any good info on them?

How big?

Compatability?

Water (Hard or Soft, Acidic or Alkaine, Temperature, etc)?

Tank Size?

They get big. Ive seen some at public aquaria easily over 14".
Water params dont seem to matter much as long as they arent too extreme. Of course no ammonia, nitrite, and low nitrate levels.

Tropical temps are right cause they are from amazonia.

The are THE BEST ALGAE EATERS bar none. Supplement diet with greens, pellets, and even some meat every now and then.

People have had horror stories of fei fengs killing rays, bichirs, and arowanas so be careful if you have those fish. I kept two with a ray once. Not for along period of time cause they both died after freak equip malfunctions but I had no problems with them and the ray. Also they seem to not like each other.

Oh, one more thing. These guys can jump. At the LFS mine jumped from a cooler that was on the ground to eye level in 4" of water!

Sounds like JD7 has it all covered :)

don't forget to mention that their favorite food is slime coating :D

slow grower, but you can pack load them with cooked peas, alagae wafers, seaweed nori and some meat variety, they'll get big..

Here's another question...since they're "the best algae eaters"...are they safe with plants? I have a few Anubius.

They love slime huh??? Im thinking of adding one or two small flagtails. Dunno if i should take the risk.

AquataHolic420 2 flagtails will fight. only 1 will remain.
benzjamin13 i have one on my planted tank too and it never damaged my plants.
